Privacy policy
This page explains what information we collect when you use our website or work with us, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We've kept it in plain English.

What we collect, and why
Getting your price
You tell us about your business: the work you do, how it's set up, your turnover, whether you're VAT-registered, whether you pay subbies, and how many people are on your payroll. Your price is worked out on your own device. We only receive your answers if you ask us to ring you.
Asking us to ring you
You give us your name, phone number, email and, for a limited company, the company name if you choose to. Your quote answers come with them. We use all of it to ring you about your quote and, if you go ahead, to set you up as a client.
Free resources
Our free tools let you leave your first name and email, but you don't have to. We only send you tax tips + business advice by email if you ticked the box to say you'd like them.
The CIS Calculator
The figures you type stay on your device. We don't receive them.
Searching our guides
We keep the text of the question you type, and nothing else. We use it to decide which guides to write. Please don't type your name or other personal details into the search box.
Calls and emails
We keep what you tell us so we can answer you and help with your business.
If you become a client
We collect what we need to do your accounts and tax, as set out in your engagement letter. The law also requires us to check your identity before we act for you.
Our legal reasons for using it
- To do what you've asked before you sign up, like ringing you about a quote, and to do the work once you're a client.
- Our legitimate interest in running and improving our business, like reading the questions people search for.
- Your consent, for tax tips + business advice by email. You can take it back at any time.
- The law, for client records and identity checks.
Who we share it with
- Netlify, which runs our website and receives the forms you send us.
- Cloudflare, which counts visits to our website for us without cookies.
- Our email provider, Microsoft, which stores our emails.
- For clients: Xero and Hubdoc, where your books are kept, and HMRC and Companies House, when we file for you.
We never sell your information.
Where it's stored
Some of the companies we use store information outside the UK. Netlify, for example, is based in the United States. When information leaves the UK, it's protected by safeguards UK law approves, such as the UK's standard contract clauses.
How long we keep it
- Requests for a call back that don't lead to you becoming a client: 12 months.
- Free resource sign-ups: until you ask us to delete them, or 2 years.
- Guide search questions: as long as they're useful. They don't include personal details.
- Client records: for as long as the law requires, usually 6 years after we stop acting for you.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. This website doesn't use cookies to track you. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies.
If we start using Google or Meta advertising tools, which do use cookies, we'll ask for your permission first.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Show you the information we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete your information, where the law allows
- Stop or limit how we use it
- Give you a copy to take elsewhere
Email office@siteledgeraccounting.co.uk and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
